30 Day knitting challenge: Day 1

So today we begin!  Some days are just quick, short answers, but I'll make sure there is something exciting for each day.

Day 1: How did you learn to knit?  How long ago? 

Taught myself from a book when I was a teenager, but really learned after taking some lessons from a shop owner in my late twenties, after I had already knit many baby sweaters, blankets, scarves and other gifts.  Bev (my teacher) was a set-in-her-ways 70+ year old shop owner who loved acrylic yarns. In spite of that, we had a great relationship and the knowledge she shared was priceless.  RIP Bev, I think of you often.
