30 day knitting challenge: Day 8

Day 8:  What’s your most challenging project?

Lots of ways to answer this one also, but I'll go with my Faroe Vine sweater, not because it was difficult to knit, but because I had to steek it--very scary!

30 Day knitting challenge: Day 7

Day 7:  What is your least favorite piece that you’ve knit?

There are plenty of times I will start a project and then rip it out because I decide I don't like it before I get to completion.  And there are lots of completed projects that I don't like for myself because of the fit, but I am able to hand off to one of my daughters.  If I have to pick a least favorite, I guess it would be my Sea Lace Necklace:

I have finished knitting it (thank goodness), but I still haven't made it into a necklace.  I really think it's pretty, but knitting it was a nightmare:  TINY metal needles and beads--not easy.  When I originally started this, I had hoped to make a few of these as gifts.  I have all of the materials, but I just don't think I have the energy!

30 day knitting challenge: Day 5

Day 5:  Do you have any other WIPs (works in progress)?

Okay, so these are the projects that are waiting to get finished, that I have not yet decided to recycle.  I will get to them eventually!

1.  My cashmere sweater.  This WILL be completed this fall!

2.  Always working on my Beekeeper's quilt:

3.  Eric's scarf:  Great yarn, boring project.  I will finish this scarf some day...

4.  Serendipity Stole:  Not sure why I haven't worked on this (in years).  Love the pattern and the yarn, just haven't spent the time.  Maybe next summer?

30 Day kntting challenge: Day 4

Day 4: What is currently on your needles?

I have lots of projects going at any given time.  You need different projects for different moods and situations!  There are the projects that are very portable and I bring in the car with me, projects that are easy, but too big to transport, projects that require uninterrupted time (like lace), sit-in-front-of-the tv-projects, etc.

The "On my needles" widget on the right side of the blog is almost everything I am actively working on, but here's a summary:

1.  Baby doll cover up:  So close to done!  The body is totally complete, and so is the i-cord tie (over 4 feet long).  Just working on the sleeves.  The first sleeve I did was too short, so I have started again.  This will be done soon:

2.  Appledore:  I love this project (and the pattern was free), but I can only work with cabled-cotton for so long.  I have completed both sleeves and the back and now I am working on the first half of the front.  I try to do at least a couple of rows each evening:

3.  My last active project is not posted on the widget because it is a new design I am working on but it's not quite ready to be revealed yet.  Here's a hint:  it's cashmere and goes around you neck...

30 Day kntting challenge: Day 3

Day 3: How long did it take from the time your learned how to knit, to finish your first project?

Hate to be boring and brief here, but I honestly do not remember!  So to make up for it, here are some pictures from my "Knitting Inspiration" Pinterest board:

Day 2: What was your first finished project?

I think the first real project that I finished back when I was in high school was an aran scarf made with REALLY scratchy wool (totally unwearable!)  I have it packed somewhere because I couldn't bear to get rid of it, but I never wore it.

And for today's fun, here's a free pattern that I am actually working on right now:  Appledore:

30 Day knitting challenge: Day 1

So today we begin!  Some days are just quick, short answers, but I'll make sure there is something exciting for each day.

Day 1: How did you learn to knit?  How long ago?

Taught myself from a book when I was a teenager, but really learned after taking some lessons from a shop owner in my late twenties, after I had already knit many baby sweaters, blankets, scarves and other gifts.  Bev (my teacher) was a set-in-her-ways 70+ year old shop owner who loved acrylic yarns. In spite of that, we had a great relationship and the knowledge she shared was priceless.  RIP Bev, I think of you often.

And just for fun, a free pattern from Sue Berk:

30 day knitting challenge

I saw this on someone's Tumblr and I thought it would be fun to give it a try for each day in September.  Ironically by doing this I will not have as much time to actually knit, but it will be fun anyway.  On each day in September, I will answer 1 question about my knitting.  Here is my list of questions:

Day 1: How did you learn to knit?  How long ago?
Day 2: What was your first finished project?
Day 3: How long did it take from the time your learned how to knit, to finish your first project?
Day 4: What is currently on your needles?
Day 5: Do you have any other WIPs (works in progress)?
Day 6: What is your favorite piece that you’ve knit?
Day 7: Your least favorite?
Day 8: What’s your most challenging project?
Day 9: What fiber or yarn do you love working with?
Day 10: Do you have a favorite pattern or designer?
Day 11: Do you have a “Knitter Hero” or someone that is just way too awesome for their own good? Do share!
Day 12: Where do you keep your stash? Post pictures!
Day 13: Do you have yarn that you love but can’t find a project for?
Day 14: What’s the worst yarn/fiber that you’ve worked with and why?
Day 15: What was your least favorite pattern and why?
Day 16: Have you ever had a knitting related injury?
Day 17: Have you ever had a project that you loved become ruined? What’s the story behind it?
Day 18: Do you knit English or Continental?
Day 19: Do you watch movies and/or listen to podcasts while knitting? What are your favorite things to knit to?
Day 20: Do you knit in public? Was anyone offended/incredibly happy/curious that you were doing so?
Day 21: Do you knit gifts for friends and family for the holidays or birthdays?
Day 22: Have you ever stricken someone off your to-knit-for list because they didn’t appreciate/take care of your last knitted gift to them?
Day 23: What’s your name on Ravelry? If you don’t have a Ravelry account, why?  Any other online knitting forums?
Day 24: Have you ever made your own pattern or dyed your own yarn? How did it turn out?
Day 25: Do you have a knitting book or a place where you keep patterns, ideas, size measurements? Post a picture of it!
Day 26: Have you ever been a part, or wanted to be a part of a knit-a-long? What was it? If not, why?
Day 27: How do you acquire most of yarn? Online retailers, local yarn shops, swaps, or large chain craft stores? What’s your favorite?
Day 28: Do you do any other crafts besides knitting? What are they, and did learning to knit come before or after learning these other crafts?
Day 29: Do you have any tips, or things that you’ve learned from knitting?
Day 30: If you had the supplies (and patience) for it, what project would you start today?
