Zum Dirndls Complete!

Well, it was a long time in the making, but love the final product! I do enjoy knitting socks, but I am not sure I will take on a pair of knee highs again. I started these way back in May 2008, put them to sleep for a while, and decided they must be finished--too pretty not to. My camera could not capture the cabling detail well enough so I did the best I could. Here is a picture of the side/back and a close-up:

These socks are a Christmas present--I can cross another one off the list!

Here are the details:
Pattern
: Zum Dirndl by Yarnissima
Yarn: Fleece Artist Merino 2/6, colorway: olive; 1.25 skeins (plenty left in the second skein for another pair of shorter socks)
Gauge: 7.5 st/inch, unblocked
Needles: US 2½ / 3.0 mm
Details: toe up, knee high, Bavarian style, short row toe. Modified the top: twisted rib instead of drawstring.

Zum Dirndl update

Still haven't finished, but getting there! Right now, these are my "car" project--they go everywhere with me, so shouldn't be too much longer...

WIP: Zum Dirndl

I have picked these back up after a nearly 2 year snooze. They were originally started on May 17, 2008. Can you guess my goal?....You got it, finish them before they are 2 years old! Here is where I left the lonely first sock:

I'm not sure why I put these down. I LOVE the pattern and I'm having a great time working on them again. This sock will be finished in the next day or 2 and then I will cast on its mate.

Zum Dirndl WIP

It is hard for me to sit and blog when it's summer and the kids are running around and the garden needs tending. I also have a lot less time to knit, but I make some time. Here's my progress on my Zum Dirndls:

And a closer look at the front cable:

And last, the heel and back cable, the best photo I could get without a model (my models are sleeping right now...)

I LOVE the pattern. My knitting has gone much quicker now that I switched over to AddiLace needles (there are a lot of twisted knits and cables in this one). If I could find an hour a day to knit, these would be done in no time...

But be warned dear family, I will make time for knitting and ignore my other responsibilities to fulfill my Ravelympic commitments. What's that you ask? More tomorrow...

A new project: Zum Dirndl test knit

So I started a new project this past weekend. I am helping test-knit a pattern for Yarnissima, one of my favorite sock designers. The sock is "knee high, Bavarian-style, toe-up, with lots & lots of twisted stitches, combined with an easy, pretty lace". It is designed to be knit with Wollmeise yarn by Claudia, to cheer her up as she goes in for knee surgery. I, of course, will be knitting it with Fleece Artist Merino 2/6 (colorway: olive), since I have that on hand...

So far, so good. This was my first short-row toe--normally I would use Judy's Magic loop cast on for toe-up, but I wanted to follow the pattern as written since we are testing it. I liked the short row toe and will be interested to see how it feels on.
